Being a sponsor means

Taking in charge one child of PSE: schooling, professional training, protection and housing. To ensure equity we do not offer nominative fostering.

The commitment of sponsors is critical for PSE to be able to ensure long term help.

The commitment is a moral one: however, each sponsor is free to stop his/her financial help at any moment.

Four times a year PSE publishes a newsletter to allow sponsors to follow the children’s progress, the development of our programmes and other news.

What is the cost?

Sponsoring one child amounts to £25 per month.

In 2009–2010:

• Sponsorship covers the schooling for one child (food, clothing, health, schooling, compensation for the family)
• For a student at university or in professional training (FP) count twice the amount (food, clothing, health, studies, compensation for the family).
• In addition protective housing (for children who live in an endangered family environment or have no family at all) supplementary sponsorship is required to cover the cost of a boarding house or their living in another family during schooling, studies or professional training.

In most countries donations are entitled to tax deductions.

Who benefits?

The beneficiaries are the children discovered and selected by the PSE Social Team, in Phnom-Penh, Siem Reap and Sihanoukville. The following election criteria have been defined by the association: extreme poverty, children who are obliged to work under difficult and dangerous conditions, such as scavengers, children who do not go to school or suffer from violence.

Priority is given to girls who are the most vulnerable and often victims of violence or bad treatment.

We also take care of children who suffer from a physical or mental handicap, because we do not want to exclude the poorest among the poor. However, in most cases we look for an external solution for them, such as specialized NGOs.
