Schooling at the Centre For Remedial Studies PDF Print E-mail

In May 1996, a Centre for Remedial Studies was set up for children who could no longer be reintegrated into the state school system. Too old or unstable, they could only rely on PSE to obtain an education.

Remedial Studies ClassroomThe Centre for Remedial Studies’ main objective is for these children to catch up on their studies.  The children therefore benefit from an accelerated teaching method (two school levels per year) if they prove to be capable of it. To this day, over 90% of the children manage to keep up with this method and many reach level 9 (equivalent to year 10 in the British system) in 5 years. The teaching is, unlike the state system, full time and aims to provide each student with a solid base in Khmer, mathematics, physics, and foreign languages (English and French), essential in a country reliant on tourism. Priority is given to lively and participatory education, including sports and drama. Currently, all levels are provided at the Centre for Remedial Studies.

The Centre for Remedial Studies follows the Cambodian Government’s curriculum, and its pupils write the official state exams.  They regularly achieve over 90% passes at the Cambodian baccalaureate!
