Additional funding for our sponsorships

Why?

The operating costs of our programs (staff, tuition, food, health, family support, etc...) are entirely covered by sponsorships by individuals or companies making regular monthly payments of about 36 €.

But at the present time, sponsorships can no longer cover the entire cost.

The average cost, calculated a few years ago by dividing the total operating costs by the number of children in our programs, now significantly exceeds the 36 € for various reasons:

• Inflation, prices of rice, fish and meat, doubled in the course of the last 3 years
• The economic crisis and the downfall of raw materials prices reduced scavengers’ resale price of scraps and halved their incomes. In order for them to survive, we had to increase our support to families.
• The creation of new programmes in order to improve child care, increase academic upgrading, support for young drug addicts, etc...

Our Projects

• Create a Sponsorship Fund to enable withdrawals at financial year end in order to balance the financing.
• The Sponsorship Fund will contribute to the funding of such programs as:

˗ For kids: remedial education, normal education, vocational training, university, pre-school classes, appropriate education for mentally retarded children, special education for children with disabilities, meals, medical programs, psychological services, protection/housing.

˗ For families : childcare, relocation, milk for babies, food for pregnant and feeding mothers, compensation for the loss of income from the children, helping out through provisional labour in order to deal with emergencies.

Budgets

Sponsorship Fund: funds are required each year to supplement the operating cost sponsorships. It is ensured by contribution from partners.

Financing the programmes. Each programme has specific costs, e.g.:average cost of one year of vocational training for one student = € 1,000.
