Improving our sewing workshop

sewing_workshopWhy?

In our centre, we have created many jobs that enable the employees to receive a regular small income during several months and to get back on their feet. Among other possibilities of temporary employments, our sewing workshop has given jobs to around fifty mothers (of the children we take care of), who are isolated from society or sick, and particularly vulnerable and during the week-ends to about one hundred young girls who study in our programmes during the week and thus earn a small revenue to have the "right" to study while helping their families.

Our sewing workshop is currently focussed on its social mission and does not really have the possibility to give women a solid training in the field of handicrafts. After a six-month contract (in order to give a chance to others), these women have not acquired sufficient skills to bounce back.

The project

  • We want to train our supervisory officers both to improve the production process and the working methods.
  • We also want to reorganise the sharing out of tasks among the workers to improve the quality of our products and the productivity of the dressmakers.
  • We finally want to improve the facilities of the sewing workshop, adding new furniture and doing some electrical work.
